Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine Students Assist with Horse Rescue

On Saturday, April 25, seven PPVM students, Robert Reid, Jordan Nickerson, Johanna Fithian, Maggie Peitzmeier, Amanda Van Pelt, Whitney Sprout and Laurel Wegener, volunteered their services to assist in processing the horses that had been relocated from the 3 Strikes Ranch to the fairgrounds in Bridgeport, NE.  This was a good educational experience for the students as they assisted Drs. Jim and Tom Furman and Dr. Arden Wolhers in administering vaccines, dewormer, along with microchipping the horses for identification.

In addition to being a great hands-on experience in working with horses, this opportunity provided the students firsthand experience in observing how this type of situation is handled.  It provided them the opportunity to observe how local law enforcement and the community volunteers worked together to deal with this type of problem in a timely and successful manner.  We thank Drs. Jim Furman, Tom Furman and Arden Wohlers for providing our students a great educational experience.
