UNL/ISU Students Attend AVMA Veterinary Leadership Experience (VLE) in Spokane, WA and Post Falls, Idaho

The AVMA Veterinary Leadership Experience (VLE), developed by the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine is supported through various education grants from Hill’s Pet Nutrition and other health industry sponsors.  This experience gives students and faculty the opportunity to develop their own leadership skills through an interactive curriculum that is designed to encourage, challenge and drive personal growth and transformation.  Jordan Nickerson, Class of 2011 and Lindsey Wallman, Class of 2012 attended the 2009 VLE in Spokane, Washington, and Post Falls, Idaho.  In summarizing his experience, Jordan stated the following; “The goal of VLE is to instill in our minds the ideals of Servant Leadership while helping us learn how to better communicate with those around us.  We learn about our personality types and how those personalities best work together in the veterinary and group setting.   I have found that it can take just one person to either positively or negatively affect a group.  If that one person is also a leader and people look up to them, then their demeanor will affect the group that much more.  VLE also taught us to try and positively affect the lives of those around us every day and pay everything that we learned forward to them.  When you actually think about how much one person can affect peoples' lives in one day it is remarkable.”
