How to Apply

Please read this information carefully and keep copies of everything you submit.  Most veterinary colleges use the Veterinary Medical Application Service (VMCAS) to process applications. This is true of the Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine (PPVM).  You will also need to complete and submit the Nebraska Residency Form, the supplemental essay, all transcripts and your GRE Score.

VMCAS Application
Applicants must apply through the Veterinary Medical Application Service (VMCAS). The online application can be accessed at http://www.aavmc.org/vmcas/vmcas.htm. The application and VMCAS fee must be submitted to VMCAS by 12:00 PM (noon) EDT on October 2, 2009. Three letters of recommendation must be submitted through VMCAS. Evaluators can include professors, advisors (academic), employers and preferably at least one veterinarian. The evaluators should be able to comment on the personal characteristics and attributes of the applicant. Family members are not to be used.

Supplemental essays for application

All applicants are also required to complete the online Supplemental Application.  Since the Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine is collaboration with ISU, the ISU supplemental application is used.  Please be sure to check Nebraska and complete the Nebraska questions after you log into the supplemental section.

When your essays are completed, print a copy for your records and submit them.  You should also print the signature page, complete it including your VMCAS ID number and send it, along with $60 check to Iowa State University and send to Iowa State University.

Graduate Records Exam (GRE)
Official results must be RECEIVED by ISU College of Veterinary Medicine by October 31, 2009. The code for ISU CVM is 6315. They MUST be sent to the College of Veterinary Medicine.  More information may be found at http://www.gre.org/.

(PLEASE NOTE: The ISU College of Veterinary Medicine will no longer be able to transfer GRE scores that are sent to the Iowa State University General Admissions Office.)

Transcripts
Official transcripts for ALL college-level coursework (undergraduate, graduate and continuing education) must be sent directly to the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University. DO NOT send them to VMCAS.
